Aggressive dog injures Sisters woman

Jodi Schneider McNamee of Sisters was walking her two small dogs in the area of E. Tyee Drive and S. Locust Street in Sisters last Wednesday, when a loose dog - she believes it was a pit bull mix - hit her from behind and knocked her down, causing a serious leg injury that required surgery to correct.

The dog "slammed into me out of nowhere, real hard," Schneider told The Nugget. "I hit the pavement with my knees and pain jolted through me and I couldn't move my leg. Luckily there was a neighbor out nearby that scared the dog away. I say lucky because the dog seemed ready to attack me when I was on the ground."

(Editor's note: Jodi Schneider McNamee is a freelance contributor to The Nugget and writes the pet column "Paw Prints").

The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's assistance in locating the dog and its owner. The sheriff's office also asking for anyone who witnessed the incident to call in and report what they saw.

The dog is described as a brown and white pit bull/pit bull mix dog.

Schneider McNamee was driven to the Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire Department where she was subsequently transported by ground ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend for treatment.

She underwent surgery on her injured leg and she reports that she is recovering well.

Anyone with information related to this incident may contact the sheriff's office at 541-388-6655 or after hours through the non-emergency dispatch line at 541-693-6911.

Poor Jodee!
Of all the people to get attacked by a loose dog!
She is such an advocate for animals!

I hope this draws attention to the problems of people who let their dogs off leash mistakenly thinking that,
"it's ok", and "what could possibly go wrong?"

If more irresponsible pet owners would get sued and/or fined they would be more diligent to make sure that their yards and fencing were secure and that their dog was never off leash. My own dog is NEVER off leash.

If I meet people with an off leash dog, I ask them to get hold of it before they pass me.

7 out of 10 times, the people say, "Oh no. It's ok. My dog is friendly."

I inform them, "Well my dog is not friendly with other dogs, which is why it's on a leash. If my dog tears your apart, then it's your fault, and if mine suffers an injury from said fight, then YOU are liable for MY vet bills."
People need to wise up and control their dogs.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you Jodee, for a speedy recovery.
This should never have happened.
Especially not to you.
